Dutch Stone City Energy to build TPP in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has signed an investment agreement with the Dutch Stone City Energy company for the construction of a new thermal power plant (TPP) in the Surkhandarya region, Trend reports referring to the press service of the ministry.

According to the information, the cost of the project for the construction of a TPP with a capacity of 1,560 MW accounts for $1.2 billion. The project launch date is the end of 2024.

It was noted that due to the use of modern technologies, the new TPP with an annual consumption of 2.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, will save 1.1 billion cubic meters and the efficiency will amount to 63 percent.

In addition, within the framework of the project, the latest technologies will be introduced, including modern steam and gas units of the HL class manufactured by Siemens Energy Corp.

During the construction of the facility, more than 2,000 jobs will be created and about 150 specialists will be employed after the commissioning of the TPP.

It is reported that since December 2020, a study has been carried out, as a result of which 150 hectares of land have been allocated for the construction of a new thermal power plant in the Angora district of the Surkhandarya region.

According to the documents, the investor will design, finance, build, commission, operate, and manage this thermal power plant for 25 years.

Stone City Energy (SCE) B.V. is a Dutch special purpose company, headquartered in Rotterdam, which operates in the fields of electricity generation and distribution. The company, formed in May 2019 to serve as a base for the consortium that will finance, project, construct and operate combined cycle gas turbine power plants and distribution in Uzbekistan. SCE operates within the norms of the Financial Regulations of the Netherlands.
