Turkmenistan's Akhal Electric Power Station boosts output rate

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 26

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

The rate of electricity production at the Akhal State Electric Power Station of Turkmenistan increased by 10.3 percent, Trend reports with reference to the Business Turkmenistan information portal.

Thus, during the reporting period, the Akhal State Electric Power Station produced 679,200 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

The Akhal Electric Power Station is currently the most powerful gas turbine power plant in the country.

The commissioning of this power plant made it possible to increase the reliability of the electricity supply to consumers in Ashgabat city and the Akhal region. With the commissioning of 3 small gas turbines in 2013 and 2 gas turbines in 2014, the plant's capacity was 648.1 MW.

The Akhal Electric Power Station was put into operation in 2010. Unlike a number of gas turbines in the country, the gas turbines of the Akhal station can run not only on gas but also on diesel fuel.

As reported, Turkmenistan is expected to grow electricity exports by 8.7 percent by 2025.

The construction of new power plants, power transmission lines, modern transformer substations, and switchgear will contribute to the growth of exports.

Earlier, the Turkmen Ministry of Energy said that there are opportunities to transit Turkmen electricity through Afghanistan to Tajikistan, Pakistan, and India.

Turkmenistan plans to generate up to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity by 2030.
