SOCAR’s Black Sea Terminal carries out planned safety inspection of steam boilers

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 1

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Planned safety inspection of steam boilers has been carried out by the inspecting body of Azerbaijani state oil company’s Black Sea Oil Terminal (Kulevi) recently, Trend reports with reference to the terminal’s website.

Steam boilers maintenance and operation procedures, maintenance schedules and plans have been reviewed by the inspection body in the frame of the inspection and boiler equipment and buildings have been inspected for their compliance with the safety requirements.

During the inspection no significant discrepancies were identified and new inspection certificated has been issued by the inspection body as an accreditation of the steam boilers for further exploitation.

Black Sea Terminal has been operating several steam generation boilers since its operation start in 2008. Initially the terminal was equipped with 2 steam generation boilers with total steam generation capacity of 24000 cubic meters per hour.

Later, due to the intensification of technological processes, in particular due to the increasing the transshipment capacities of high viscous oil products and implementation of expansion projects, 3 units of steam generation boilers with total steam supply capacity of 48 000 m3/h had been constructed and put into exploitation in 2016.

Considering that operation of steam boilers is considered as operation of objects with high risk potential all steam generating boilers in the terminal have been maintained in a good working order in compliance with the legal and industrial safety norms requirements. All boiler equipment and accessories are periodically tested, inspected and verified. All personnel involved in steam boilers operation and maintenance are qualified and competent for fulfillment of the assigned responsibilities Besides this all steam boilers are periodically visited and inspected by the authorized bodies to ensure their safe operation and compliance with a technical regulations of government of Georgia regarding the safe operation of oil bases.

To date, the Black Sea Oil Terminal (BST) of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has transshipped more than 28 million tons of oil and oil products since the start of commissioning in May 2008.

The terminal is used for shipment of crude oil, fuel oil, diesel fuel, gas oil, methanol, aviation fuel, propylene, liquid pyrolysis resin, naphtha, isopropyl alcohol, diesel fuel with ultra-low sulfur content, industrial oil, and condensate.

The terminal in the Kulevi port was put into operation in May 2008, and the transshipment of oil products was launched in June. The total capacity of the terminal is 10 million tons of liquid bulk oil cargo per year, including three million tons of oil, three million tons of diesel fuel, and four million tons of fuel oil. The total capacity of the tank farm of the terminal is 402,000 cubic meters.
