Uzbekistan eyes new substation to power Pop-Namangan-Andijan electrified railway line

Uzbekistan plans to launch an investment project on construction of a base substation for power supply of external facilities of Pop-Namangan-Andijan electrified railway line by the end of 2021, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

According to the ministry, in 2021, additional high-voltage transformers with a total capacity of 1,568 megavolt-amperes (MVA) will be installed at 17 electrical substations in Uzbekistan. The projects are being implemented as part of the Energy System Modernization and Reconstruction Program in order to fully meet the growing domestic demand for electricity.

In particular, in 1H2021, high-voltage transformers with a total capacity of 631 MVA were installed at seven substations (SS), including at the Chirchik SS in the Tashkent region, at Beruniy SS in Karakalpakstan Republic, at Khorezm SS in the Khorezm region, at the Smena SS in the Fergana region, at the Kuyimozor SS in the Bukhara region, at the Amir Temur substation in the Kashkadarya region. Also, high-voltage transformers with a capacity of 43 MVA, increased to 631 MVA, were installed and put into operation at the Gornaya SS in the Navoi region.

It is reported that by the end of the year, it is planned to introduce additional high-voltage transformers with a total capacity of 1000 MVA at 10 substations - at the Karshi SS in the Kashkadarya region, at the Kuyimozor SS in the Bukhara region, at the Samarkand SS in the Samarkand region, at the Kattakurgan SS in the Samarkand region, at the Chemistry SS in the Navoi region, at the Gornaya SS in the Navoi region; at the Fergana SS in the Fergana region, at the Yuxak SS in Tashkent, at the Sherabad SS in the Surkhandarya region and MBA at the CSN 2SS in the Jizzakh region.

In addition, it is planned to launch three investment projects by the end of the year, including:

- Reconstruction of the 500 kV of Guzar-Regar high-voltage line (L-507) worth $14.8 million;

- Expansion of outdoor switchgear at 500 kV of Surkhan SS within the framework of the construction project of 500 kV Surkhan-Puli-Khumri power lines (Khoja-Alvon) worth $32 million;

- Construction of a base substation for power supply of external facilities of the Pop-Namangan-Andijan electrified railway line worth $11.2 million.

Also, the ministry reports that in 1H2021 the volume of allocated loans for the implementation of projects amounted to 398.6 billion soums ($38 million).
