Azerbaijan plays a crucial role in energy security not only in the region but also for the southern EU, by providing critical oil and gas resources, Arnold Dupuy, Faculty Associate at NAVAL Posgraduate School at Monterey in California, told Trend.
Dupuy was among the participants of the Advanced Regional Energy Security Symposium 2021 – Caucasus, which is being held Sept. 6-10, by the Center of Excellence in EU Studies at ADA University (Azerbaijan), in partnership with the NATO Energy Security Center of Excellence, the Naval Postgraduate School, BP Azerbaijan, and State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
“Azerbaijan undoubtedly plays a great role in energy security in the Caspian region and Central Asia,” Dupuy said, adding that for local consumption there is a big demand for Azerbaijani oil and gas in other parts of the world.
He also spoke on the damage that the Armenian troops tried to inflict on Azerbaijan's pipelines.
"We saw back in July last year when Armenia attacked Tovuz district, trying to damage the pipeline and disrupt the supply,” he said.
