Azerbaijan achieves practical results to restore hydropower plants in liberated lands - agency's CEO

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 4

By Khagan Isayev - Trend:

Plans are being implemented to restore hydroelectric power plants in Azerbaijani territories liberated from Armenian occupation [in the 2020 second Karabakh war] and the practical results have already been achieved, Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under Energy Ministry Tabriz Ammayev said, Trend reports.

Ammayev made the remark during the panel discussions of the UNEC Economic Forum.

According to him, the hydroelectric power plants built in the previously occupied territories were operated by Armenia without observing any environmental standards and then fell apart.

He further said that negotiations are underway on the implementation of a project for the construction of industrial hydroelectric power plants in those territories.

"This is a hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 140 megawatts at the Khudafarin and Gyz Galasy hydroelectric complexes [in Jabrayil district bordering with Iran], which provides for the annual production of 358 million kilowatt-hours of electricity,” the СEO noted.

“The station is expected to supply about 110,000 houses with electricity. At the same time, projects to provide the territory with green energy are giving results," Ammayev said.
