Iran to develop HPP on Gotvand dam following Russian loans

A hydroelectric power plant on the Gotvand Dam in the Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) will be developed at the expense of loans from Russia, Deputy Director of Iran Water and Power Resources Development Company (IWPC) Behrouz Moradi told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Moradi, with a loan of 280 million euros from Russia, 640 megawatt-hours will be added to the power generation capacity of the HPP.

“At present, the hydroelectric power plant has the capacity to generate 1,000 megawatt-hours of electricity,” he added.

The official noted that work on the development of the power plant will be carried out by Iranian companies, while the equipment will be supplied by Russia.

The deputy director emphasized that the development of the power plant will begin this summer.

There are 4 units with a generation capacity of 250 megawatt-hours each operating at the HPP on the Gotvand Dam in Iran's Khuzestan Province.

The implementation of a number of projects on the basis of a loan of 5 billion euro from Russia to Iran is on the agenda.
