BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 9. The nuclear power plant will be constructed in Ulken village of Kazakhstan’s Almaty region, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Bolat Aqchulaqov said, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.
In May, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Bulat Aqchulaqov said that the nuclear power plant may be constructed near the Balkhash lake in Kazakhstan.
"This territory has been studied for a long time, since Soviet times. There is still no specifics on a location and technology of the future power plant ," Aqchulaqov said then.
Kazakhtan's future energy balance includes a nuclear power plant with an installed capacity of 2.4 gigawattes (GW) as a new source of basic generation.
Kazakh President Kassym Jomart Tokayev has numerous times spoken in favor of constructing the nuclear power plant saying it would solve issues arising from increasing electricity consumption in the country.
