BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 12. Azerbaijan's total electricity output from January through March 2023 amounted to 7.7 billion kWh, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan told Trend.

According to the ministry, this figure increased by 7.7 percent or 551.7 million kWh year on year.

In the first quarter of this year, electricity production at Azerbaijan's thermal power plants (TPPs) increased by 527.3 million kW/h year-on-year, totaling 7.38 billion kW/h.

At the same time, hydropower plants (HPPs) in the country increased their output by 24.7 million kW/h - up to 277.9 million kW/h.

On other sources the total electricity production grew by 300,000 kW/h, amounting to 90.9 million kW/h.

As many as 15.5 million kWh of electricity was generated at wind power plants (WPPs), 13.4 million kWh at solar power plants (SPPs), and 62 million kWh at the solid household waste incineration plant from January through March 2023.

Moreover, in the reporting period, the electricity production from the AzerEnergy OJSC exceeded seven billion kWh (6.78 billion kWh - at TPPs, and 262.3 million kWh - at HPPs), from State Energy Agency of Nakhchivan – 87.3 million kWh (61.5 billion kWh - at TPPs, 13.6 million kWh - at HPPs, and 12.2 million kWh at SPPs).

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan exported 1.2 billion kW/h and imported 31.3 kWh of electricity.

The WPPs of Azerishig OJSC produced 11.8 million kWh of electricity from January through March 2023.

In total, over 28.9 billion kWh of electricity was produced in the country in 2022 (an increase of four percent). Exports accounted for more than three billion kWh, while imports - 137.1 million kWh of electricity.
