Azerbaijan records growth in gas transportation via South Caucasus Pipeline

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. The gas transportation via the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP), or Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum, equaled 14.58 billion cubic meters (bcm) from January through August 2022, compared to the same period in 2022 (13.45 bcm), Trend reports.

According to the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan, this figure grew by 8.43 percent year-on-year.

The SCP accounted for 53.8 percent of gas transported through Azerbaijan's main gas pipelines in the first eight months of 2023, compared to 54 percent for the same period in 2022.

Meanwhile, 27.1 bcm of gas were transported through Azerbaijan's main gas pipelines, which is 6.17 percent more than last year.

The SCP has been operational since late 2006, transporting Shah Deniz gas to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye. The expanded section of the pipeline commenced commercial deliveries to the latter country in June 2018 and to Europe in December 2020.

SCP shareholders are: bp (operator, 29.99 percent), SGC (21.02 percent), LUKOIL (19.99 percent), TPAO (19 percent), and NICO (10 percent).
