BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 4. The EU gas transportation system received 131.22 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2023, 1.9 percent more than in 2022, Trend reports, referring to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).
Of this volume, 11.36 billion cubic meters were delivered in December (4 percent lower than in November 2023 and 6 percent lower than in December 2022).
LNG ranked first among all gas types in Europe in 2023, reaching a share of 40 percent.
North Sea gas supplies to the EU (primarily Norwegian gas) accounted for 29 percent, while North African supplies accounted for 11 percent.
Gas transported from the UK to the EU accounted for 5.8 percent of total natural fuel supplies to the eurozone.
The rest of the volume was supplied to the EU from CIS countries, including Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan supplied 11.8 billion cubic meters of gas to the EU in 2023, compared to 11.4 billion cubic meters in 2022.
