BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 15. Representatives of Azerbaijani companies took part in the recent international "Wind Energy Roadmap Development and Implementation" forum, held in Türkiye's Izmir, one of the participants of the event told Trend.

Among the participants were representatives of SOCAR Türkiye Energy AS (STEAS), Energazer LLC, and other companies.

The forum was attended by representatives from the World Bank, and European Investment Bank, who presented reports on new directions of wind energy investment in Europe.

The organizers and sponsors included the Izmir Development Agency and financial and power companies of the Aegean region.

"During the speech of Azerbaijan's representatives, they particularly noted that the country has a considerable offshore wind energy potential of 157 GW, of which 122 GW is floating power plants and 35 GW is stationary power plants. And this potential will be gradually realized," the source said.

SOCAR has signed several contracts to develop offshore wind power plants in 2023. As for STEAS, it has experience in investing in wind power plants on the Türkiye's Aliaga Peninsula near the Aegean Sea.

The project to build a 51-megawatt wind farm near Petkim's petrochemical complex is worth $55 million.

This plant will provide Petkim and several neighboring facilities with the necessary electricity.

"There are a lot of wind power plants on the Aliaga Peninsula due to its favorable geographical location. Azerbaijani companies may eventually enter new wind power projects in Türkiye, whereas Turkish companies will support Azerbaijan's wind power industry," the source said.
