BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 22. Iran’s thermal power plants (TPPs) generated 300 million megawatts of electricity in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Nasser Eskanadari said, Trend reports.
The deputy director also stated that the TPPs were responsible for more than 93 percent of Iran’s total electricity generation in this period.
Eskanadari added that combined cycle units, which made up over 53 percent of the TPPs output, generated 163 million megawatts of electricity. Most of the TPPs fuel (86 percent) came from natural gas, while diesel and fuel oil accounted for 9 percent and 5 percent, respectively.
There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.
Over 280 million megawatts of electricity were generated by the country's thermal power plants in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023).
At present, the power generation capacity of all of Iran's power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
