Azerbaijan doubles natural gas purchases from Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 22. Azerbaijan imported a total of almost 208.9 million cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan from January through February this year, Trend reports.

According to the data of the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan, during the specified period, the volume of purchases of natural gas from Turkmenistan was 2.3 times higher than in the first two months of 2023, which amounted to almost 87.8 million cubic meters.

In value terms, Azerbaijan's purchase of natural gas from Turkmenistan from January through February of this year amounted to almost $31.3 million, which is 2.5 times more than in the same period of 2023, when it amounted to about $12.5 million.

All natural gas imported by Azerbaijan during the specified period came exclusively from Turkmenistan.

Azerbaijan saw a significant uptick in natural gas imports from Turkmenistan in 2023, reaching approximately 1.51 billion cubic meters—a 77 percent surge from the 857 million cubic meters recorded in 2022.

Azerbaijan's natural gas imports from Turkmenistan amounted to $218.22 million in value last year, marking a substantial increase of 96.8 percent compared to the same period in 2022, when they stood at $110.87 million.
