BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. Azerbaijan's electricity generation in the first quarter amounted to 7.129 billion kWh, of which 360.3 million kWh was exported, said Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov on X, Trend reports.
"Of the total electricity generation in January through March 2024, more than 6.519 billion kWh was generated by thermal power plants (92 percent of the total generation) and the remaining eight percent (610.1 million kWh) by renewable energy sources," the minister emphasized.
At the same time, renewable energy sources generation increased by 241.5 million kWh compared to the first quarter of 2023.
From January through March 2024, Azerbaijan imported 44.3 million kWh of electricity (as part of seasonal energy exchange with neighboring countries).
To note, from January through March 2023, electricity generation in the country amounted to 7.752 billion kWh, while exports amounted to 1.239 billion kWh.
In 2023, Azerbaijan produced 29.276 billion kWh of electricity, which is 272.3 million kWh more than in 2022, of which 3.252 billion kWh was exported.
