BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4. Work on the construction of the Ighdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024, Trend learned from a source.

On December 15, 2020, Azerbaijan and Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding on the Ighdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. This pipeline will not only diversify Nakhchivan’s gas supply but also eliminate its dependence on a single source. The project was included in the priority projects of the State Program for Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027.

The project will be implemented by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the Turkish BOTAŞ.

The pipeline extends 97.5 kilometers from Ighdir to the Sadarak region, with 17.5 kilometers in the Azerbaijani section and 80 kilometers in the Turkish section. The pipeline is capable of transporting 2 million cubic meters of gas per day and 730 million cubic meters per year, fully meeting Nakhchivan’s gas needs.

In the future, the pipeline's capacity can be more than doubled. A foundation-laying ceremony for the gas pipeline took place on September 25, 2023.
