AZERENERJI SWITCHES TO BLACK OIL SERVICE

Oil&Gas Materials 6 July 2005 17:00 (UTC +04:00)

Azerbaijan’s only electricity generator, Azerenerji announced it was concerting its production facilities to black oil service following the suspension of gas supplies to the country by Gazeksport, a subsidiary of Russia’s energy giant Gazprom. Gas supplies were ceased on the night of July 6.

Following the announcement, Azerenerji chief engineer Marlen Asgarov told Trend that the company had compiled enough stock of the black oil to keep its capacities running for two to three days, whereupon gas supplies will likely be resumed. He declined to elaborate on the amount of the black oil stock available at Azerenerji’s storage facilities.

In accordance with an order by the Azerbaijani Cabinet, by November 15 Azerenerji has to store up the black oil in the amount necessary to meet the corresponding demand during the 2005/2006 cold season. As part of relevant arrangement, the company has managed to lay in the scheduled stock of black oil at thermoelectric power stations.
