Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend U.Ismaylova / Azerbaijan does not intend to impose penal sanctions to the Turkish side due to delays in the delivery of gas via the South Caucasus Pipeline. The Minister of Industry Azerbaijan, Natig Aliyev, said on 21 May that no penal sanctions are planned.
Currently the gas from the Shah Deniz field is being delivered to Azerbaijan and Georgia via South Caucasus Pipeline. Turkish BOTAS already carries out commissioning work on the junction of the Georgian-Turkish border to receive the first gas from the Shah Deniz field via South Caucasus pipeline. "The partners of the Shah Deniz project and South Caucasus Pipeline are prepared to present gas to Turkey once the Turkish gas is ready," the Minister said.
The contract to develop the offshore field of Shah Deniz was signed on 4 June 1996. The participants to the agreement are: BP (operator) -25.5%, Statoil - 25.5%, NICO - 10%, Total - 10%, LukAgip - 10%, TPAO- 9%, SOCAR - 10%. " Azerbaijan is ready to purchase additional gas from the Shah Deniz field envisaged for Georgia and Turkey. The Country has a demand for it," the Minister said.
