Brazilian Company Petrobras Wishes to Join Oil and Gas Markets of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan, Astana / corr. Trend K.Konirova / Brazil's large state company, Petrobras, has plans to join the oil and gas markets of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, said the company's Executive Manager, Samir Passos Awad. "Our goal is to establish contacts with the Kazakh Government with regards to oil exploration and production," Awad said. He stressed that they are mainly interested in the fields on the shelf of the Caspian.

"We want to purchase assets or work together by creating an alliance," he said. "Annually we spend nearly $500 mln for investigations into improving oil production offshore. We are ready to offer our know-how and experience by not disparaging the dignity of other companies," Awad said.

The representative of Petrobras is optimistic in Petrobras's plan to join the oil market of Kazakhstan.

In regards to Azerbaijan, Awad said "We have plans to join the oil and gas market of Azerbaijan and we have already established contacts with the Government of the Republic". Answering the question on the decision of Petrobras to pay attention to Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan in particular, Awad said "in 1998 the company began to aggressively join the international market. Firstly we acquired experience on the shore of Africa and the Mexican gulf. Now Petrobras's development strategy envisages joining Asian markets and Kazakhstan is one of the most significant oil producing countries in Asia and Azerbaijan in the Caspian region".

The second goal of Petrobras in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan is to assist in developing a program on bio-ethanol.

According to Petrobras's representative, the company has already concluded contracts with Italy and Portugal on delivery of 300,000 tons of bio-diesel per year.

According to data of American ExxonMobil the share of bio-ethanol in 2030 in energy resources will equal nearly 2%.
