Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Aliyev / Azerenergy named the location of the new electric power station which will be constructed to replace Alibayramli Thermal Power Station, said Vice President of Azerenergy, Marlen Askerov. According to him, the old station has completely deteriorated and is not suitable to modernize. A new station will be built near the old station.
Earlier the Technical Council of Azerenergy unanimously adopted a project to construct the new Alibayramli TPS. Azerenergy has defined the priority capacity which will be produced in the station after its reconstruction. The design capacity of the station will equal 800 MWt. The design capacity of the old station constructed more than 40 years ago totals 1000 MWt. Nearly 20% of the country's electricity is currently produced by the station, but due to the deterioration of its resources, its technical and economic indicators are low. The station consumes nearly 460 grams of fuel to produce 1KWt/h electricity and it is very high indicator.
In addition, Azerenergy has determined the type of equipment that will be installed in the station. The equipment in the station will work on the basis of mazut and gas. Negotiations are currently being held with companies that possess such equipment. After these talks are complete, Azerenergy will determine the source of finance.
Currently the summary electricity production capacity in Azerbaijan is 5500 MWt. The figure is intended to be increased up to 10000 MWt in the next four years. It will provide an opportunity for Azerbaijan to not only to ensure its electricity demand, but also to export it.
