By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

If the US government decides to devalue the dollar, it will not affect the lari either positively or negatively because of the small economy of Georgia, noted Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG) Aleksi Aleksishvili, Trendreports with reference to commercant.ge.

According to the financier, the reason for this is the small size of the Georgian economy.

“Georgia does not have direct trade relations with the United States, but it has foreign trade with United States trading partners. Speaking about the exchange rate, one should take into account not the nominal, but the real exchange rate. The devaluation of the dollar is not expected to lead to any change in the lari exchange rate,” he says.

As he noted, only fundamental factors, such as production, exports, macroeconomic stability, etc. can influence the national currency.

“Diversification of export markets should be our main goal. If the United States lowers the dollar against the yuan, it will not bring any benefit to Georgia, ” Aleksi Aleksishvili said.

As previously reported, the administration of the President of the United States said that the constant strengthening of the dollar against other currencies impedes production growth, stimulates imports and leads to their artificial devaluation.
