Agricultural production increases in Azerbaijan

From January through September 2019, the value of agricultural production in Azerbaijan amounted to about 6.273 billion manat ($3.697 billion), which is 7.1 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee.

During the reporting period, livestock production increased by 3.1 percent (up to 2.97 billion manat, or $1.75 billion), and crop production - by 11 percent (up to 3.307 billion manat, or $1.948 billion).

From January through September 2019, 375,500 tons of meat, 1.574 million tons of milk, 1.386 billion eggs and 15,800 tons of wool were produced in the country. Compared with the same indicators in 2018, meat production increased by 3 percent, milk - by 1.5 percent, eggs - by 6.9 percent, and wool - by 1.5 percent.

For the first nine months of this year, 939,700 tons of potatoes were grown (an increase of 10.2 percent) and 1.443 million tons of other vegetables, which is 11.2 percent more compared to the same period last year. During the reporting period, 3.236 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were grown, which is 6.3 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the reporting period, 445,100 tons of melons, which is 12.4 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, and 656,800 tons of fruits and berries (an increase of 11.7 percent) were grown. Furthermore, 165,400 tons of grapes (a 48.8-percent annual growth), 647.5 tons of green tea leaves (a 12.1-percent decrease) and 33,700 tons of sunflower (a 41.1-percent growth) were grown.
