Export of Georgian wine keeps rising

The export of Georgian wine continues to grow, Trend reports with reference to the National Wine Agency of Georgia.

As reported, in 2018, 86.2 million bottles of wine were exported from Georgia, which is 13 percent more compared to 2017, and in monetary terms increase reached 20 percent and amounted to $203 million.

The growth trend of wine export continued this year: over the past 11 months of 2019, 86 million bottles of wine were exported from Georgia, which is 10 percent more compared to the same period of 2018.

In the reporting period, the value of exported wine reached $220 million, having increased by 20 percent compared to the same period of 2018.

“In 2018, the average export price per bottle was $2.3, and in 2019 it was $2.5,” the agency said.

Meanwhile, exports increased in the strategic markets for Georgian wine: the US - by 48 percent (660,874 bottles), Poland - by 24 percent (3.7 million bottles), the UK - by 22 percent (126,493 bottles) and China - by two percent (6.3 million bottles).

According to the data released by American Association of Wine Economists (AAWE), Georgia ranked 5th in the world at an average cost of one liter of exported wine of $3.4 in 2014-2016.
