BAKU, Azerbaijan, Apr. 22

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

Gold continues to keep the leading position in Uzbekistan's exports – in the period from January through March 2020, its share made up 29.8 percent, Trend reports citing the Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

According to the report published by the committee, in the first quarter of 2020, the total number of exporters made up 3,298 entities, which allowed to bring the value of Uzbek exports (excluding special exports) to $2.3 billion.

However in comparison with the similar period of 2019, the export decreased by 7, 4 percent (exports of gold accounted for more than $1 billion).

Industrial goods (18.7 percent), services (18.6 percent), mineral fuels, lubricating oils and their equivalents (9 percent) also make up a significant part of the export structure.

According to international experts, gold quotations in April 2020 were only 10 percent lower than the 2011 record levels.

Today, the price of gold at Comex stock exchange was $1,719.55 per ounce, the report said.

In addition, quotes for gold rose due to fears of a sharp slowdown in global economic growth caused by the introduction of quarantine measures, as well as the collapse of stock indices and the fall in oil prices that followed.

Recently it was reported that, Uzbekistan’s Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex continues to mine gold despite restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic.
