Uzbekistan supports local tourism sector

The government of Uzbekistan takes additional measures to accelerate the restoration of tourism industry of the country, Trend reports citing the State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan.

A corresponding decree on urgent measures to support tourism sector to reduce the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic was adopted by President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 28, 2020.

In accordance with the document, from June 1 through December 31, 2020, profit tax rates for entrepreneurs in the tourism sector will be reduced, and the state's assistance makes up about 15.2 billion soum ($1.4 million). This means that hotel owners, as well as tour operators and travel agents leave at their disposal the amount, which is formed in the period from June through December as a result of a 50- percent reduction in the tax rate.

Uzbekistan has 184 registered hotel enterprises and 267 tour operators and travel agents.

Hotels are located in all regions of the country. On average, state budget receives 968.2 million soum ($95,127) of income tax from hotels for a month. Under the decree, in the period from June 1 through December 31, hotels will get extra 3.5 billion soum ($343,881).

Average monthly income tax paid by 267 tour operators and travel agents was 3.4 billion soum ($334,056). Under the decree, they will get extra 11.8 billion soum ($1.1 million) for the period from June through December.

“These measures are designed to reduce the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic, preserve jobs and qualified specialists, support their income and tourism in general,” the committee said.
