Amount of payment cards in Azerbaijan grows

The number of payment cards increased by 20 percent in Azerbaijan as of late April 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, and reached 8 million, Trend reports citing a statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The majority of the cards (7,200) are debit cards, with 3,000 being social cards, 2,330 - salary cards, and 1,860 other cards. The total number of debit cards went up by 21.3 percent.

The number of credit cards stood at 877,000 as of late April 2020.

As of May 1, 2020, there were 2,636 ATMs in the country, of which 1,406 were in Baku and 1,230 in other cities and districts of the country. Since the beginning of 2020 as of April 1, the total number of ATMs has increased by 30, or 1.1 percent, however due to liquidation of AtaBank and Amrahbank it went down by 41 as of late April.

The number of POS terminals in the country made up 56,668, of which 35,564 were installed in Baku and 20,357 in other cities and districts of the country.

Since the beginning of 2020 as of April 1, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan has increased by 3,659 units, or 5.4 percent, but because of revoking licenses from the forenamed banks it sharply dropped by 14,459 (20.3 percent).
