ADB allocates funds to Georgia for purchasing PCR tests

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has allocated 400,000 euros to Georgia for purchasing Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, Trend reports referring to ADB.

According to the bank, the grant will allow the country to purchase medical equipment and help more effectively fight against COVID-19 in Georgia.

The grant will be used by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia to purchase the latest equipment for PCR testing.

"Grant allocated in the framework of ongoing technical assistance: regional support for the prevention of further spread of coronavirus disease and the cessation of possible spread of other transmittable diseases,'' reads the bank's message.

The medical, software and technical equipment will significantly increase the country's ability to quickly test for the virus, and will also significantly reduce the burden on medical staff at the Lugar Center (National Center for Disease Control and Public Health), where more than 70 percent of all PCR tests are performed.
