The government of Uzbekistan seeks to reduce corruption and the shadow economy in the country, Trend reports citing the press service of the president.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting devoted to reducing the shadow economy on July 27, 2020.
“The meeting noted the high level of shadow economy in the country. Therefore, measures to reduce its share by facilitating business have been taken. In particular, the currency market has been liberalized, a new tax system has been introduced and about 100 licences have been abolished. As a result, the share of the shadow economy in industry has fallen from twenty to six percent in the last five years”, the message said.
"During the meeting the president instructed to develop a strategy to reduce the shadow economy with the involvement of experts from international organizations," the message said.
The instruction to develop the Fair Taxpayer e-system has been given.
Special attention was paid to cleansing the sphere of public procurement and investment projects from corruption. In order to ensure transparency in these areas, strengthen public control and competition, the Ministry of Finance was instructed to launch an information portal of public procurement.
It is determined that from now on each project will undergo an anti-corruption examination. It was noted that by the end of the year, this system should be implemented in 14 organizations and 10 banks with a state share.
The State Customs Committee and the State Tax Committee were tasked to create a single database on import, customs clearance and sale of imported goods. The task was set to introduce the Customs Audit information system from January 1, 2021.
Also, the president of Uzbekistan noted the need to simplify tax administration for small businesses, to further reduce the procedures of authorization and licensing for entrepreneurial activity.
Each ministry and industry has been instructed to achieve specific indicators by the end of 2020.
