Consumer Price Index slightly decreases in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan registered a 0.3-percent decline in average consumer prices and tariffs in July 2020, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

For June 2020, this indicator was 0.2 percent.

According to the committee, in July 2019, the average monthly price of goods and services fell by 0.4 percent compared to 2018.

The annual composite Consumer Price Index (CPI) in July 2020 increased by 0.2 points compared to the previous month (from 114.2 percent to 114.4 percent).

However, the July 2020 CPI was 0.9 points higher than in July 2019 (114.4 percent versus 113.5 percent).

"Mass saturation of the Uzbek market with fruits and vegetables from the new harvest resulted in an overall decline in prices for this group of products and, as a result, the CPI for food products for July 2020 was 98.7 percent. Non-food products and paid services to the population rose by 0.5 and 0.4 percent respectively," the message said.

Over the period from January through July 2020, the price level of foodstuffs increased by 4.9 percent, while the price for non-foodstuffs increased by 4.1 percent and services by 3.6 percent, compared to the same period of 2019.
