Iran reveals amount of funds allocated for construction of Ardabil-Mianeh railway

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 13

A total of 4 trillion rials (about $95.2 million) was allocated for the construction of the Ardabil-Mianeh railway between Ardabil and East Azerbaijan provinces in northwestern Iran, Governor of Iran’s Ardabil Province Akbar Behnamjoo said, Trend reports citing the governor office’s website.

He made the remark in a meeting with Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Kheirollah Khademi.

The governor noted that in the coming days, the money will be paid to the contractor company that is operating on the construction of the railway.

Behnamjoo noted that the discussions were carried out at the meeting on the making of four lanes on each side of the highways between Iran's Ardabil and Zanjan provinces.

The construction of Iran's Ardabil-Mianeh railway began in 2015. The 175-kilometer-long Ardabil-Mianeh railway has 62 tunnels with a length of 23.8 km.

In total, it was planned to pay 10.7 trillion rials (about $254 million) for the construction of the Ardabil-Mianeh railway. About 3.8 trillion rials (about $90.4 million) was paid, so far. The railway will be commissioned by the end of the current government (August 2021). At present, there is more than 80 percent progress in the construction of the Ardabil-Mianeh railway. The infrastructure work will be completed by the end of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021).
