National Bank of Georgia reveals info on card payments by residents

Issued payment card transactions by resident issuers within Georgia has totaled 36.96 million units, 2.89 million lari ($898,951) as of August 2020, Trend reports via the National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

The number was up from 27.89 million units, 2.37 billion lari ($737.2 million) as of August 2019. Out of total payment transactions, this year, as of August 2020, withdrawal from ATM stood at 6.74 units, 1.85 billion lari ($575.4 million).

The units of POS transactions are significantly higher in comparison with ATM transactions - the number was 30.21 million. However, in case of volume, ATM withdrawals still remain dominant, as the volume of transactions via POS reached 1.03 billion lari ($320.3 million) during report period.

Together with the growing POS transactions, the number of operations conducting through the internet (issuing) has more than doubled for August 2020, in comparison with the same period of 2019.

Overall, 6.48 million units of operation, worth 429.55 million lari ($133.6 million) has been conducted for the end of August 2020. The number was 3.60 million units, worth 277 million lari ($86.1 million) as of August 2019.

According to NBG, the number of payment debit Cards in circulation was 6.27 million as of August 2020, up from 6.12 million as of August 2019.
