Georgian insurance companies  have losses in 9 months of 2020

Georgian insurance companies paid 250.93 million lari ($76 million) in losses in the first 9 months of 2020, Trend reports via Georgian media.

The mentioned sum is is 182.29 million lari ($55.2 million) less than in the same period of last year (433.22 million lari or $131.1 million) in the third quarter of 2019).

The Unison company that paid 196.30 million lari ($59.4 million) in losses and became the leader last year but this year has ceded its positions to Aldagi. GPI Holding and Imedi L take the second and third places in the rating.

It’s worth mentioning that as of September 30, 2020, 18 companies operate in the insurance market. Some 17 of them hold a life and non-life insurance license, one has only a non-life insurance license.

Eighteen insurance companies paid claims of 433.2 million lari ($131 million) from January through September 2020 in Georgia.

The top five insurance companies due to paid claims are as follows:

JSC Insurance Company ALDAGI – 47.29 million lari ($14.3 million);
JSC Insurance Company GPI Holding – 47.12 million lari ($14.2 million);
JSC Imedi L – 34.08 million lari ($10.3 million);
JSC TBC Insurance – 24.63 million lari ($7.4 million);
JSC ARDI – 24.54 million lari ($7.4 million).

As of September 30, 2020, the Georgian insurance sector registers 18 insurance companies, 17 of which hold life and non-life insurance licenses, while one company holds a nonlife insurance license.
