Uzbekistan to form reserve in state budget for combating COVID-19

Uzbekistan will form a reserve of three trillion soums ($286 million) in 2021 in the state budget to combat the coronavirus pandemic, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his message to parliament, Trend reports citing uzdaily.uz.

The head of Uzbekistan noted that the systemic fight against the coronavirus pandemic will continue in the health sector in 2021.

According to the president part of the funds will be used to vaccinate the population against coronavirus infection.

In addition, Uzbekistan will allocate $200 million to improve the quality of work and improve the material and technical base of the sanitary and epidemiological service, as well as the creation of modern laboratories.

Speaking about the consequences of the pandemic, the head of state noted that about 30,000 medical beds were organized in the city of Tashkent and the regions in a short time. Medical institutions are provided with the necessary medicine, modern means of protection and diagnostics. Over 200,000 medical workers, as well as 150 foreign highly qualified doctors and specialists were involved in the fight against the pandemic.

More than 600,000 compatriots were returned to the country. Assistance has been organized for about 100,000 of Uzbek citizens who find themselves abroad in difficult life situations.

In addition, in order to mitigate and eliminate the consequences of the pandemic, the state implemented comprehensive measures for a total of 82 trillion soums ($7.83 billion). In particular, an Anti-Crisis Fund has been created. More than 16 trillion soums ($1.53 billion) have been allocated from the budget for measures to combat coronavirus, support the population and business.

Along with this, practical assistance was provided to state enterprises and more than 500,000 business entities, as well as almost eight million citizens in the form of tax benefits, deferred repayment of loans and financial assistance totaling 66 trillion soums ($6.30 billion).
