Uzbekistan’s 2020 bank cash turnover increases

The volume of bank cash turnover in Uzbekistan in January 2021 amounted to 32.1 trillion soums ($3 billion), increasing by seven percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).

According to the CBU, the volume of cash receipts to bank cash desks in the first month of 2021 amounted to 17 trillion soums ($1.6 billion), while cash consumption accounted for 15.1 trillion soums ($1.4 billion).

It is noted that in January of this year there was an increase in the consumption of cash through cash desks of banks (including ATMs) by 6.7 percent compared to January 2020, which was mainly due to an increase (1.5 times) in the volume of cash withdrawals from bank cards by 1.7 trillion soum ($162 million).

As a result, the share of cash withdrawn from bank cards in the total volume of cash spent by Uzbek banks increased from 25 percent to 35 percent.

In addition, it is reported that the amount of funds transferred to bank cards in January 2021 amounted to 15.9 trillion soums ($1.5 billion), while Uzbek population cashed out funds from bank cards in the amount of 5.2 trillion soums ($495 million) (32.8 percent).
