Number of bank accounts increases in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan

The number of bank accounts opened in banks of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic increased in annual terms by nine percent, Trend reports on April 22 referring to the report of the State Statistics Committee of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The number of bank accounts in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic exceeded 94,000 as of early April 2021.

Some 81,650 bank accounts, or 86.8 percent, are active. Some 9,883 out of 9,885 bank accounts opened only in the first quarter of 2021 are active.

In total, banks and credit organizations of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic issued loans to legal entities and individuals in the amount of over 48.4 million manat ($28.5 million) during the first three months of 2021.

The implementation of the "Program to expand the introduction of digital payment services and non-cash settlements in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2019-2022", approved upon the order of the chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dated August 9, 2019, creates new opportunities for the development of the infrastructure of e-payments, acceleration of turnover of funds and reduction of cash payments.
