Most transactions on government securities in Azerbaijan fall on primary market

The total volume of transactions on government securities at the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) since early 2021 amounted to over 3.8 billion manat ($2.2 billion), and their number was 859, Trend reports on May 5 referring to the BSE report.

According to the report, 613 transactions worth more than 3.3 billion manat ($1.9 billion, 86.5 percent of the total) were made on the primary market. Of these, about 60 percent (366 transactions) were made on short-term notes of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) for a total of 2.7 billion manat ($1.6 billion). Some 247 transactions worth 635.4 million manat ($373.7 million) fell on bonds of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Finance.

The secondary market for government securities accounted for 246 transactions totaling 516.8 million manat ($304 million).

The volume of repo transactions on government securities amounted to over 1.6 million manat ($940,000). From January through April of this year, 1,081 repo transactions in government securities were carried out at the BSE.

The capitalization of the BSE on the last trading day of April 2021 amounted to slightly over 4.2 billion manat ($2.4 billion), growing by 9 percent since early 2021.
