EBRD considers supporting transformation of Uzbek mining and metallurgical combine

The Uzbek finance ministry and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) considered the possibility of supporting the reconstruction and development of the transformation process of the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine, Trend reports referring to the Uzbek finance ministry.

The mentioned issue was discussed by the Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan Timur Ishmetov and the representatives of the EBRD in the format of a video conference.

The video conference was also attended by First Deputy Minister Omonullo Nasritdinkhodjaev, Deputy Finance Minister Odilbek Isakov, Head of the EBRD Office Alkis Drakinos, Senior Banker of the Bank's Financial Institutions Department Jahan Shamsiev, and other representatives of the EBRD.

It is reported that the parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the EBRD in the field of transformation of the banking system.

EBRD specialists paid special attention to the development of the private sector and state-owned enterprises. It is noted that the possibility of support by the EBRD of the transformation process of a number of state-owned enterprises, in particular the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine, was discussed.

Also, the parties considered important projects for Uzbekistan on expanding the capital market. The EBRD representatives noted that they are ready to assist Uzbekistan not only on strategic issues in this direction but also in the implementation of specific initiatives. Several proposals were agreed upon.

In addition, the participants stressed that the development of the capital market will provide the economy with long-term financial resources.
