BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 30

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

The volume of the total external debt of Uzbekistan as of April 1 increased by one percent or $310.6 million in relation to the beginning of 2021, Trend reports referring to the report of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU).

According to the information, during the reporting period, the total external debt of Uzbekistan amounted to $34.2 billion.

The CBU noted that the total external debt of Uzbekistan has an upward trend.

“Changes in the structure of debt indicate that the growth of public external debt in the country is a result of the attraction of new external borrowings to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the crisis caused by the spread of the COVID-19 virus and financing state programs for the development of economic sectors and regions. While the growth of private external debt is due to the attraction of borrowings from banks,” the report says.

In particular, the public external debt as of April 2021 amounted to $21.2 billion. At the same time, the debt of the private sector increased to $12.9 billion.

It is reported that during the same period, Uzbekistan paid off a debt in the amount of $200 million and interest in the amount of $67 million.

It is noted that the preservation of the balance of external debt in the reporting period without significant changes is explained by the commensurate level of attraction of new borrowings and the repayment of existing debts.
