The total value of REPO transactions on securities at the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) made up over 3.73 billion manat ($2.19 billion) from January through July 2021, a source in the BSE told Trend.
According to the source, this indicator accounts for 39.4 percent of total transactions on securities.
The number of REPO transactions in Azerbaijan’s capital market increased 4.3 times from January through July 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, totaling 2,274.
"Most of the REPO transactions were carried out on state bonds, the amount of which exceeded 3.5 billion manat ($2.05 billion) on 2,223 transactions," the source said.
This indicator also showed a multiple growth (by 4.4 times) per annum.
Another 40 deals on REPO operations worth 191 million manat ($112.3 million) were carried out with the securities of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan. Some 11 deals on REPO transactions in the amount of 3.6 million manat ($2.1 billion) in the first 7 months of this year fell on corporate securities.
In order to ensure the sustainable development of the Baku Stock Exchange, based on the decision of an extraordinary meeting of shareholders, the par value of BSE shares was increased from 200 manat ($117.6) to 800 manat ($470.6) through retained earnings.
As a result, the authorized capital of the exchange grew from 1.26 million manat ($740,000) to 5 million manat ($2.9 million).
The capitalization of the BSE on the last trading day of July 2021 amounted to 4.3 billion manat ($2.53 billion), having risen by 11 percent since the beginning of the year.
