Baku Stock Exchange names share of REPO deals in total deals for securities

The total value of REPO transactions on securities at the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) from January through late August 2021 surged, BSE told Trend.

According to BSE, this indicator reached 4.54 billion manat ($2.67 billion, up by 4.2 times compared to the period from January through late August 2020, when this indicator exceeded one billion manat or $588.2 million), accounting for over 42 percent of total transactions on securities.

From January through late August this year, 2,274 REPO transactions have been carried out in Azerbaijan’s capital market against 675 conducted in the same period of 2020.

"Most of the REPO transactions were carried out on state bonds, the amount of which reached 4.3 billion manat ($2.5 billion) on 2,688 transactions. This indicator also showed a multiple growth (by 4.3 times) per annum,” the BSE said, reminding that in the first eight months of 2020, 637 transactions on state bonds were conducted in the amount of over one billion manat or $588.2 million.

Another 53 deals on REPO operations worth 237 million manat ($139.5 million) were carried out with the securities of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (annual growth of eight times). Some 11 deals on REPO transactions in the amount of 3.6 million manat ($2.1 billion) in the first eight months of this year accounted for corporate securities (drop of 90 percent).
