Deposits in national currency increasing in Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 26. The total volume of loans issued by banks of Turkmenistan in national currency from January through February 2023 amounted to 31.09 billion Turkmen manat ($8.89 billion), of which 17.88 billion Turkmen manat ($5.11 billion) were issued only in February, Trend reports.

According to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, these figures are 11.9 percent more than in the first 2 months of last year (27.78 billion Turkmen manat or $7.95 billion).

Of the total volume of attracted deposits, bank deposits of legal entities for the first 2 months of this year amounted to 25.87 billion Turkmen manat ($7.4 billion), which is 10.1 percent more than from January through February 2022 (23.49 billion Turkmen manat, or $6.72 billion).

Furthermore, bank deposits of individuals for the first 2 months of 2023 amounted to 5.03 billion Turkmen manat ($1.43 million), which is 30.9 percent more than in the first month of last year (3.84 billion Turkmen manat, or $1.09 billion).

The total volume of deposits attracted by banks of Turkmenistan in the national currency in 2022 amounted to 872.64 billion Turkmen manat ($249.31 billion), with an average interest rate of 0.31 percent.

Meanwhile, according to the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the official exchange rate of the Turkmen manat against the US dollar on May 25, 2023 is set at 3.5 manats per USD.
