Inflation rate in Iran growing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 27. The point-to-point inflation rate in Iran grew by 38.5 percent in the 10th month of the current Iranian year (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared with the same month last year, Trend reports.

Data from Iran’s Statistical Center shows that families in Iran spent an average of 38.5 percent more on a number of products and services in the 10th month of the current Iranian year.

Point-to-point inflation is the percentage change in the number in the price index compared to the same period last year.

In the 9th month, the price index was 222.7 in Iran.

Point-to-point inflation in the 10th month was 39 percent in prices of food, soft drinks, and tobacco products in Iran, while in the non-food and services sector it was 38.2 percent.

Point-to-point inflation in the 10th month was 38.7 percent in Iran’s cities and 37.5 percent in villages.

According to the report, the monthly inflation in the country for the 10th month fell by 0.3 percent compared to the 9th month (November 22 through December 21, 2023) and reached 2.6 percent.

The monthly inflation rate refers to the percentage change in the price index number compared to the previous month.

In the 10th month, monthly inflation was 2.7 percent in cities and 2.1 percent in villages.

At the end of the 10th month, the annual inflation rate in the country (January 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024) dropped by 0.8 percent compared to the previous period (January 21, 2022 through January 20, 2023) and amounted to 43.6 percent.

The annual inflation rate is the average percentage change in price index numbers over the past year. At the end of the 10th month, annual inflation was 43.4 percent in Iranian cities and 44.8 percent in villages.
