BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. Iran requires $3 billion for the construction and launch of plants that make solar power equipment, said Mahmoud Kamani, deputy energy minister and chairman of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization of Iran, Trend reports.
Kamani noted that Iran needs about 50 such plants to meet its renewable energy goals.
The deputy minister also reported that a silicone production plant with a 1,500-megawatt capacity started operating last year, and a solar battery factory is being built.
According to him, more efforts are needed to establish poly-silicon production plants.
In total, Iran has a renewable energy capacity of roughly 1,090 megawatts, largely from solar power facilities.
As of early December 2023, the country has begun the construction of 24 new solar power facilities with a total capacity of 1,500 megawatts.
