Azerbaijan announces debut auction for renewable energy facility construction

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy has announced the first nationwide auction (tender) for the development of renewable energy sources - the design, financing, construction, and operation of a 100 MW solar power plant (SPP) in the country's Gobustan district, Trend reports via the ministry.

According to the ministry, the tender is conducted by an auction commission in the form of an open auction in accordance with the "Rules for selecting electricity producers in the field of renewable energy sources" in the form of a qualification request (QR) and a request for proposals (RFP).

"From April 30, 2024, companies interested in participating in the auction are invited to request a qualification document by contacting the email address [email protected]. In the email, it is necessary to specify the name of the company requesting the qualification document, the country to which it belongs, the name, surname, position, email address, and phone number of the company representative.

The document on determining the compliance of qualifications will be provided to the companies that have submitted applications starting May 7, 2024," the ministry pointed out.

To note, Azerbaijan plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the energy balance to 33 percent by 2030.

The auction parties must submit information related to the qualification assessment to the competent authority in two copies by June 14, 2024.

The stage of determining the acceptability of specialization and qualification will be completed by July 12, 2024.

The state guarantees that it will purchase electricity produced at the SPP in accordance with the law of Azerbaijan, "On the use of renewable energy sources in electricity generation".

The tender results are planned to be announced by the end of 2024.
