BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 28. The COP29 Presidency conducted a series of consultations on climate financing in New York during Climate Week, Trend reports via COP29 website.

On September 27, an informal ministerial dialogue on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) took place, where ministers and other high-ranking officials from around the world discussed accelerating negotiations on climate financing ahead of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled for November 11-22 in Baku.

"Besides, on Friday in New York, COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev held meetings with COP28 President Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and UK Secretary of State for Energy Ed Miliband. These meetings focused on advancing global climate goals, energy transition, and sustainable technologies," the website said.

Additionally, the Rio Trio initiative was launched in New York, promoting innovative cooperation between Azerbaijan, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia to address issues related to climate change, biodiversity, and desertification.

A productive meeting, aimed at promoting climate financing, transparency, and achieving consensus ahead of COP29 in Baku, also took place between COP29 chief negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev and Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of the Treasury Lida Fitts.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP—the Conference of the Parties—is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin, with its secretariat in Bonn.
