Teachers show great interest in People's computer in Azerbaijan

Over 1,000 teachers of secondary schools got computers within pilot stage of Azerbaijani project People's computer, the communication and IT ministry said on June 1. 

"Roughly 900 appeals were received through the ministry of education. But we (the communication ministry) received the rest ones. All people applied to us got computers," the ministry said.  

The ministry of communication, the ministry of education and HP, Microsoft companies signed  

the protocol on intentions concerning beginning of joint realization of People's computer project.

Major goal of the project is to create terms for different social layers of population to purchase modern computers and licensed software, reduce digital inequality by extension of information-communication technologies introduction in regions, as well as support of the Azerbaijani government's activity directed on development of information society and E-government. 

Computers are envisaged only for teachers during the first pilot state of four-month project. The project is expected to cover other social groups (students, doctors, state employees, etc.) in future. 

НР allocated 5,000 MiniNotes, notebooks Laptops and Desktops within the project. Licensed operational Microsoft system was installed in all equipment. It is implemented within School agreement signed between the ministry of education and Microsoft company. All equipment is delivered for 12-month interest free loan. Cost of computers within People's computer project is 500-700 manat.  

Over 100,000 computers will be sold within the project during next three years.
