Ukraine proposes to put Azerbaijani satellite into orbit

Ukraine has proposed Azerbaijan to put AzerSpace communication satellite to orbit, Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan Boris Klimchuk said at a news conference.

"We have proposed to use our Zenit 3SL launch vehicle while putting satellite to orbit and Ukraine's space agency is ready for this," Klimchuk said.

Ambassador said the only restriction for Ukraine is the weight of the satellite. Ukrainian launcher allows to transport satellites up to 3,500 tons of total weight and a useful up to 1,500 tons.

"And I know that Azerbaijan needs exactly such parameters or Azerbaijan has put just those settings in AzerSpace," he said.

The diplomat said tender bids for construction of the satellite have not yet been revealed. It will be available whom Azerbaijan will prefer in manufacture of the satellite and what the satellite will be like and whether Ukrainian launcher will be able to take it into orbit as soon as the proposals are revealed.

Cost of AzerSpace project is estimated at almost $200mln. The Communication Ministry says the project will recompense in five years. The project will bring profit for the coming 15 years.    

The manufacture of communication satellite takes two years on average in world practice and launch several additional months.
