A total of 8,000 computers will be sold as part of the second phase of the People's Computer project, said the Ministry of Education.
Computers, offered under the People's Computer project, have been designated only for the teachers. Today about 30,000 teachers have received training on working with new technologies.
According to the Ministry of Education, in the next two years, Azerbaijani schools will also receive 4,000 laptops.
According to statistics, at present one computer falls for 29 students in the countryand in Baku - for every 15-17 students
In general, 8.5 million manat will be spent to the project of computerization of schools in 2008-2012.
Computerization of schools is carried out within the State Program of informatization of the education system for 2008-2012, which was approved by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree, dated June 10, 2008.
The computerization of the education system started in 2005, with the issue of the decree on "Approving the program on providing public schools with information and communication technologies in 2005-2007".
The main goal is to create a unified educational information environment to improve the quality of education, by using IT and the country's integration into the global system of education. This, in turn, will effectively manage the country's education system, as well as contact with educational institutions of foreign countries through the Global Network.
