Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences to present "e-science" project at int’l CODATA conference

The "e-science" project, implemented in Azerbaijan, will be presented at the 22nd International CODATA Conference (Committee on Data for Science and Technology) "Scientific Information for Society: From Today to the Future", to be held in the Cape Town, South Africa Oct.24-27, the Information Technologies Institute (ITI) of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) said.

The International Organization CODATA was established in 1966 and is included in the International Council for Science (ICSU), which coordinates activity of international scientific unions and assists in developing and carries out research on global problems.

ANAS at the upcoming conference will be represented with the e-science project by the ITI director Rasim Aliguliyev, who will talk about the current state and prospects of e-science in Azerbaijan.

Conceptual, legal and technological analysis and monitoring studies of applying information technologies in science were conducted by the institute to implement the project. A monitoring information system has been developed, analysis was held for preparedness to use IT in about 150 research institutions.

At present, the works are underway to expand the network infrastructure of ElmNet academic network, which will be further integrated into the international scientific network.

ANAS has developed a conceptual analysis to form an e-education network infrastructure. According to the plan, the network's infrastructure, material and technical base, and internal corporate infrastructure will be created until 2012.
