"Baku Telephone Communications" Production Association of Ministry of Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan in connection with the first European games to be held in Baku in 2015 started the construction of the optical cable infrastructure in the direction of places where competitions will be held as well as in the direction of other places related to the Games, the PA told Trend Aug. 20.
Production association will build optic cable (LCT) infrastructure with a total length of 190 kilometers.
Data transfer rate will be up to 10 Gbps.
"Currently about 70 percent of the work on the construction of the cable infrastructure has been completed, and the rest part of the work will be completed in the near future," said the PA.
It is also planned to create a copper telecommunications infrastructure. The overall length of the optical lines will be 230 kilometers and copper cable infrastructure will be about 70 kilometers long.
Within the framework of the project ISDN services will be introduced, infrastructure of Internet access will be expanded, free Wi-Fi network will be deployed in public areas (parks, stadiums, shopping centers). Also works on establishing qualitative and sustainable infrastructure for broadcasting (including broadcasting organization in format HD) are planned. Direct international link and a separate fiber-optic network will be involved in order to provide HD video. In addition, resources of the "Azerspace-1" telecommunication satellite of Azerbaijan will also be used.
The first European games to be held in Baku from June 12-28, 2015 are an exciting and technically advanced sport show for the whole continent.
Competition at the games will include 19 kinds of sport, 16 of which are Olympic ones. The competition will be attended by more than 6 000 athletes from all over Europe.
Nine kinds of sport provide qualified selections for the Summer Olympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. These kinds are archery, athletics, beach volleyball, cycling, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and triathlon.
Baku was chosen to host the Games by the European Olympic Committee in December 2012.
